This is a freshwater lake national park. It was designated a national park to protect the wide range of fish species found here. Some are unique to Lake Malawi.

Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve is currently being restored. It is hard to get to and much of the wildlife has declined.

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve

Central Malawi (160 km from Lilongwe)
1,800 square km

Nyika National Park

Northern Malawi 
3,200 square km

Great for trekking and mountain biking

• Antelope (duiker, eland, roan)

• Bush pigs
• Elephant
• Leopard (largest density in Central Africa) 
  
• Warthog
• Zebra

In addition to animals look out for waterfalls, a large number of flowers, a "magic lake" and pools.

A UNESCO World Heritage Centre
